Cloud course "Stratified Flow in Pipes and Channels" at Tianijn University, 2. -22. November, 2020. Abstract: Multi-phase flow systems where water and air interactions occur have been known since antiquity, such as aqueducts, tunnels etc. Nowadays the Computational Fluid Dynamics solutions have been intensively developed for dealing with the turbulent-flow mixing processes in the engineering systems. When water and air flow in a pipe, there are particular conditions for which the two phases are separated from each other by a continuous interface and when they are mixed. When flow is dominated by the gravity force which causes the liquid to stratify at the bottom of the channel, the hydraulic jumps can occur. The mobile hydraulic jumps can cause a number of problems in the engineering systems. The course presents the conservation laws, which are used to solve the multi-phase flow dynamics in the engineering systems.

Resümee: Mitmefaasilised voolusüsteemid, milles vee ja õhu vastasmõju on oluline, on teada juba antiikajast alates, näiteks akveduktid, tunnelid jne. Tänapäeval on arvutusliku vedeliku dünaamika (CFD) rakendusi aktiivselt arendatud ehitussüsteemides turbulentsete vooluprotsesside analüüsiks. Vee ja õhu koosvoolamisel torus on eritingimused, mille puhul vee ja õhu osad on eraldatud vahepinnaga ja kui need segunevad. Kui voolamises domineerib raskusjõud, mis põhjustab vedeliku kihistumise voolusängi aluspõhjas, siis võib moodustuda vooluhüpe. Liikuvad vooluhüpped võivad voolusüsteemides põhjustada mitmeid tehnilisi probleeme. Kursusel tutvustatakse hüdromehaanika põhivõrrandeid, mida kasutatakse ehitussüsteemide stratifitseeritud voolamise dünaamika analüüsis.
