I am a researcher at the X-ray Laboratory of the University of Tartu. My research focuses on studying light-matter interactions in tiny systems such as atoms, molecules, and clusters. To do this, I use advanced experimental methods like ion and electron spectroscopy, multiparticle coincidence spectroscopy, and pump-probe measurements. These experiments are typically conducted at large-scale research facilities known as synchrotrons and free-electron lasers (FELs), which produce extremely intense beams of light. I use these beams to break molecules apart. It might sound dramatic, but it’s a powerful way to learn more about important processes, for example, how certain molecules can enhance the effectiveness of cancer treatments. I represent the community of Estonian synchrotron and FEL users at the European synchrotron and FEL user organization (ESUO).
