Research Professor holding EU Mobilitas Plus Top Researcher Grant (2017-2022; Enactive Avatar - Triadic Interaction Model). Doctor of Arts in cinematography (Aalto University), awarded with the title of Adjunct Professor in New Narrative Forms (University of Lapland). Previous ex-director of Crucible Studio, the Department of Media at the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Helsinki, Finland.
My focus is on narratives in general and on enactive narratives in particular. My research team NeuroCine, funded by Aalto Starting Grant in 2010, continues combining filmmaking practice with the methods of neuroimaging in order to study neural basis of narratives, cinematic imagination, and filmmaker’s expertise.

After working for ten years as a graphic designer, I applied for the film school at the former University of Art and Design. 1996 I graduated as a M.A. cinematographer. Since then, I have directed feature films Daughters of Yemanjá (Brazil-Finland 1996) and Sand Bride (Finland 1998), as well as several short films, music videos, and documentaries, and developed interactive films. I have also worked in numerous international feature film productions, including several films by Mika Kaurismäki and The Night on Earth by Jim Jarmusch. I'm the author Enactive Cinema: Simulatorium Eisensteinense (2008), director of the Enactive Cinema Installation Obsession (2005) awarded with Möbius Prix Nordic prize, and co-author of interactive film-game The Third Woman exhibited in Galapagos Art Space, NY (2011). I'm a founding member of research project Enactive Media (2009-2011) at the Aalto University and more recently I have represented School of ARTS as a filmmaker and researcher in the multidisciplinary neuroscience research project aivoAALTO (2009-2014), Aalto University.
