Purnendu Karmakar
Dr. Purnendu Karmakar is a theoretical cosmologist and gravitational-wave researcher specializing in data-driven tests of fundamental physics. His work develops statistically robust, high-performance computational pipelines for confronting extended gravity and dark-sector models with large observational datasets. He combines mathematical modeling with Bayesian evidence-based model selection, scalable numerical solvers, and reproducible open-source workflows. His research contributes to Estonia’s integration into international gravitational-wave networks and strengthens national expertise in high-dimensional inference, uncertainty quantification, and digital scientific infrastructure. In addition to classical high-performance inference methods, Dr. Karmakar is developing exploratory work on quantum–classical algorithmic comparisons for gravitational-wave detection, in collaboration with experts in GW pipeline development. This includes investigating whether quantum-assisted search and sampling strategies could complement existing matched-filter pipelines in future large-scale detection scenarios.
