Riikka Rossi is Senior lecturer of Finnish literature at Tampere University and Docent of Finnish literature at the University of Helsinki. Her research centers on affective aspects of literary naturalism and primitivism and negative emotions in literature and culture. She is currently leading a three-year research project on narratives of the North and emotions, "Arctic Hysteria. Strange Northern Emotions" (2020-2022) funded by the Kone foundation. She has previously led a three-year research project on realistic worldmaking funded by the University of Helsinki: http://blogs.helsinki.fi/realism-literature/ and worked as a researcher in two Academy of Finland projects, "Styles of Mimesis" (2008-2010) and "Literature and Emotions" (2015-2019) http://blogs.helsinki.fi/literature-and-emotions/ She has been a fellow at the Helsinki Collegium of Advanced Studies in 2013-2014 and she is currently also a researcher in an interdisciplinary Kone foundation project on emotion sharing https://blogs.helsinki.fi/naapuridialogit/

She has also taught courses and lectured in several universities abroad including the University of Vienna, the University of Cologne, the University of Greifswald, INALCO (Paris), the University of Caen, the University of Geneva, the University of Washington, Seattle and the University of Alberta, Edmonton.
