Porcine circovirus type 2 - from DNA sequence to symptoms Caroline Fossum, Eva Wattrang, Sirje Timmusk, Frida Hasslung, Per Wallgren. AimTo study the interaction between porcine circovirus type 2 and the host at the molecular and cellular levels and to relate these interactions to the development of disease or protective immunity in the individual or atthe herd level. The present research on PCV2/PMWS was supported by SJFR/FORMAS already in 2001 (“Porcinecircovirus in Sweden – epidemiology, pathogenicity and immune modulation” Dnr 302.0444/00/2003-1082: final scientific report to be submitted 2007-12-31) and by aid of a close collaboration with Dr. Gordon Allanand coworkers at Queens Univeristy in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK we became well prepared with established methodology for diagnosis of PMWS and characterisation of the virus. These tools were mostvaluable and allowed a unique study on the spread of PMWS during the early phase of the disease outbreak in Sweden (Wallgren et al.,
