Tarmo on uurinud füüsikalisi ohutegureid üle 10a. Tööks puudutab elektromagnetväljade, optilise kiirguse, vibratsiooni, valgustuse ja müra ala. Teaduslik uurimistöö keskendub elektromagnetväljadele, optilisele kiirgusele ja valgustusele. Uurimistöö keskmeks on nimetatud füüsikaliste ohutegurite põhjustatud mõjud ning riskihaldus. Tööalasest ekspositsioonist tingitud mõjude hindamine ning riskihaldus. ;

Additional information
Tarmo has been researching physical risk factors for over 10 years. The main fields of his research are electromagnetic fields, optical radiation, vibration, lighting and noise, their induced effects and risk management. His research has focused on electromagnetic fields risk management issues including developing methods and materials. Tarmo has been also involved in European Union's electromagnetic fields' legislation analysis and formulation. For this task Tarmo was named by the government as a national expert to represent the country in the Council of the European Union (Brussels). Often Tarmo is been called for consultations by the government agencies and various bodies as an expert consultant.;
