David Lamas is a Professor of Interaction Design at Tallinn University’s School of Digital Technologies, where he heads the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) academic and is the curator of the Master in HCI. He also serves as the chair of the Estonian chapter of ACM’s SIGCHI (http://sigchi.org), and as an expert member of IFIP’s TC13 (http://ifip-tc13.org).
David’s main research interests are design theory and methodologies, and he has been designing organizations, communities and human technologies, systems and more since his post-doc at Michigan State University as a member of the MIND Labs network (http://www.mind-labs.org). He has done so in the USA, UK, Portugal, Cape Verde, and recently in Mozambique, Afghanistan and Estonia, developing through his experiences an acute understanding of how to shape and lead transformation processes.
Since he joined Tallinn University, David bootstrapped and has lead the academic direction of HCI, the Master in HCI and has groomed the local HCI community with a steady stream of training events such as the seasonal courses on Experimental Interaction Design, Research Methods in HCI and on the Design of Human Technologies; and a complementary stream of dissemination activities such as the bi-monthly meetups and the celebration of the World Usability Day, which brings together more than 400 researchers and practitioners every year, a bit from all over the world.
David has also built a solid project participation record, taking part and leading his team in FP7, LLP KA3, ETAG, NordPlus, USAID and other projects.
David has successfully supervised several master students, 3 doctoral students and 2 post-doc researchers. He currently supervises 12 doctoral students, 4 of which about to complete their studies.
