Associate Professor and Researcher of Interaction Design at Tallinn University’s School of Digital Technology. Sónia received her Ph.D. in 2006 at Sheffield Hallam University, UK, and her Doctor degree accreditation by Aveiro University, Portugal, in 2007. Meanwhile, concluded her post-doc projects at Aberta University and Tallinn University. Since 2003 she has been focusing on exploring the role of Trust in technologically enhanced contexts. Publishing more than 32 research articles the past 5 years, most of them as an independent researcher. Currently, Sónia actively researches, teach and supervises at Tallinn University. Her research duties focus mainly on her Trust socio-technical model and Human-computer Interaction. She also co-supervises, two doctoral projects on Human-Computer Interaction.
Since 2005, successfully mentors Master thesis projects and, since 2015 supervises doctoral project applications. Sónia's teaching duties in the past 5 years include Master level courses on HCI and interaction Design (e.g. Human-Centered Computer, User Experience evaluation, and End User Computer, Trustful computing, and Designing for User Engagement). She also leads a join online MSc master on Interaction Design with Cyprus University of Technology (idmaster.eu). As well the Experimental Interaction Design summer school at TLU: Meanwhile, Sónia successfully participated in four personal funded research projects. Participated as well in teams of EU and locally funded research projects where she could apply her expertise. Mainly addressed issues related to openness, collaboration, and e-participation. She also actively participates in cooperation projects in developing (Afghanistan, Moçambique, Cabo Verde).
Collaborated with the local team in Cape Verde, Praia (6 years) and in Mozambique, Beira (3 years) in teaching, leading and researching activities. Belonging as well to the team selected to set in place Universidade Jean Piaget in those countries.
In Afghanistan, her main contribution is on supervision of Master students and co-supervision of 1 Ph.D. research project.
Since 2001 been author and co-author of pedagogic, didactic, scientific publications, both in English and Portuguese; participation in national and international conferences since 1999.
Her background also includes volunteer work and creative work (mainly 3D graphics and animation). Developed at Michigan State University, USA and Fernando Pessoa University, PT.
