Recently, EC has launched the STARTS initiative, supporting “Innovation at the nexus of Science, Technology, and the ARTS”. From our perspective, STARTS spirit could be beneficially incorporated into research activities of DT and TLU at large. This is an emerging field of R&D where boundaries between art and engineering are removed and creativity becomes a crucial factor. That is why we proposed STARTS@TLU research programme for art, science, technology and society partnerships in a cross-schools proposal (F/1517 this spring and its continuation during this submission). STARTS@TLU research programme is already happening and its first instance was neurotheatre perfromance "Demultiplexia" at BOZAR this September. The second event within this STARTS@TLU programm is a STARTS residency via EU project VERTIGO, hosting Dr. Kristi Kuusk (Estonian Academy of Arts) at Spain and Estonia with her project "Magic Lining". The project focuses on the possibilities for altering people’s self-perception through the garment’s inside. Is there a way to change one’s self-perception without relying on the feedback and the need for approval from other people? Magic Lining builds on the insights from MAGICSHOES project, which Dr. Valjamae is also a part of (unsalaried position), and proposes a garment that allows the wearer’s the feel as if their body would be made of a different material. Our proposal is targeting Kristi's work during her STARTS residency so that we can create best conditions to host her and benefit from working with her (and with MAGICSHOES consortium). In addition, we can demonstrate to full extend our potential to host other STARTS residencies. Concrete objectives (OBs) of the project will be: OB1: Help Kristi to develop her Magic Linen prototypes (2 prototypes) OB2: Duplicate/replicate prototypes into our school, for usage in our MSc programmes etc., in other words, allow for transfer of knowledge OB3: Creating a bigger, EU project in collaboration with Dr. Kuusk and her colleague, Prof. Nithikul Nikumrat from Art Academy
