Power electronics is a key enabling technology for more efficiency in both production and consumption of electricity. The project “Green Power Electronics” aims at leveraging the full potential of semiconductor-based power electronics for promoting Green energy with improved conversion and distribution of wind and solar energy. Especially advancements of power circuit elements with new materials such as silicon carbide or gallium nitride are indispensable for market introduction of new renewable energy sources and subsequent reduction of greenhouse gases.
The project intensifies collaboration between actors from the innovation ecology for power electronics, wind and solar energy. It involves leading R&D institutions, industry as well as innovation policy from the Baltic Sea Region. A main driver for this collaboration is regional and targeted technology marketing for better awareness and understanding of potentials deriving from new materials and new energy distribution paths in power electronics. Moreover SMEs from wind and solar energy join the transnational innovation network for better transformation of knowledge into new products such as integrated power systems.
