TransEurope identifies the impact of transnationalisation on life course inequality within selected European nations. Key scientific objectives are to: 1)develop and compare macro-level measures of transnationalisation for use in comparative langitudinal life course studies; 2) specify mechanisms of European transtationalisation's impact on life course ineguality; 3) examine how institutions and social policies filter these mechanisms; and 4) study individual-level responses to transnationalism's effects at pivotal life course transitions. Scientists from 11 European countries will network their interdisciplinary expertise through intensive workshops, exchanges and a research school to create theoretical, and policy-related innovations regarding transnationalism's European consequences. The Programme's main scientific objectives are: 1) to isolate and specify the mechanisms through which transnational developments of globalisation and Europeanisationchange the relations of social inequality across the life course in various European nations; 2) to develop and test masures of the transnational shifts, which can be used in comparative longitudinal life course studies; 3) to understand and identify the role of institutions and social policies in Europe that filter divergent responses to the transnational shifts brought about by Europeanisation and globalisation that subsequently impact life course inequality; and 4) to study individual-level responses to transnational shifts at pivotal life course transitions (entry into the labour market, job mobility, re-entry after a period of non-employment, retirement, and family dynamics) in Europe.
