The investigation was started in 1997 in Noarootsi area and was led by Prof Rein Zobel. The investigation includes student summer practice in surveying. In 2003 – 2009 the research was conducted in Lahemaa National Park, in Pedaspea area. The responsible head of the research is now architect Jaan Tiidemann. By the end of 2009 the results of historic-topological method (founded by Rein Zobel) were published by Jaan Tiidemann as Proceedings of Faculty of Architecture: On Research Methods for Spatial Structure. Case study of Pudisoo. 2010. The main aim of the research was to establish general methods for handling the heritage landscapes and historic settlements of Estonia in a more holistic way. The result of the research was to define all the main elements of space and architecture in structural way. The research presents a new source for creating masterplans and planning conditions for the Lahemaa and Matsalu National Parks.
