Biomass has developed in recent years and has potential to contribute to a more sustainable energy system. The use of biogas is however very low and requires support. There is a lack of knowledge and cooperation about what raw materials (substrates) are available. In some regions such as Spain or Italy the use of biogas is more common but there is still a need for further development, especially at regional and local level. In this project the seven partners will first present a study of the biogas use in each region and the future potential for development of biogas. This report will be a base for the creation of regional biogas networks that will be set up in each region. The regional networks will use the knowledge gained regarding the potential of future biogas production, and the expertise gathered in the newly created networks to create regional action plans for implementation in each region. During the lifetime of the project, experiences and knowledge gained in the regional networks will be with the participants in all regions. The size of this sub-project with seven members from five different countries will ensure that the knowledge gained and the lessons learned will represent several different technologies and conditions of biogas production, upgrading, distribution etc. thus making it a valuable contribution in striving for a better environment.
