Käesolevas projektis nähakse ette TMR meetodi rakendamist ainete lokaalse struktuuri ja dünaamika määramiseks. Planeeritakse arendada väikeste molekulide, biopolümeeride ja tahke keha spektroskoopiat ja metodoloogiat. Projekti peaeesmärk on töötada välja ja täiustada mitu uut TMR mõõtesüsteemi, sh. krüotemperatuuride maagilise pöörlemise (MAS) mõõtepea, kõrgete temperatuuride MAS mõõtepea, ja süsteem väikeste bioloogiliste kehade mõõtmiseks. Selline riistvara võimaldab uurida mitmesuguste niisuguste materjalide molekulaarset struktuuri ja dünaamikat milleks praegusel ajal võimalused puuduvad, kuna olemasolev TMR tehnika ei võimalda sobivat temperatuuri vahemikku või piisavat tundlikkust. Uue tehnika rakendustena nähakse tehnoloogiliselt ja majanduslikult tähtsate ainete sh ioonjuhid, membraani proteiinind, biopolümeerid, tseoliidid, molekulaarse struktuuri ja dünaamika uurimist, samuti spetsiifiliste probleemide nagu töötava südame in vitro energeetilise bilansi uurimist.
The project implements NMR structural and dynamics tools in material sciences. It presents balanced activities in small molecule, biopolymer and solid state spectroscopy and methodological development. We plan to develop advanced NMR techniques, including cryogenic magic-angle-spinning (MAS) solid state NMR (cryoMAS-NMR) probe, high-temperature MAS, high-sensitivity MAS, and small body bio-NMR probes for materials and biochemical research. The project provides hardware and methods for studies of the molecular structure and dynamics in a wide range of substances which are currently off-limits to structural investigations, because of the lack of suitable temperature range or low sensitivity of the conventional NMR apparatus. The new techniques will be employed for molecular structural research on samples of great technological and economic importance such as: ionic conductors, membrane-bound proteins, zeolites, biopolymers and for studies of the energy balance of working heart in vitro.
