Lisainfo

Tourism is the oldest social scientific journal researching issues of tourism and pilgrimage, and has been a preferred venue for many religious tourism scholars. This issue will take the communitas/contestation binary deeper, by not only exploring other instances where class, status and social structure complicate the sensation of communitas (or “unity in diversity”), but by also exploring other aspects of unity and difference in pilgrimage studies: sacred/profane and pilgrimage/tourism; purity/pollution, the role of the ethnographer/role of the believer, etc. In addition to your conference papers, the issue will feature two commentaries on this theme by high-profile theorists.
